The National Municipal Legal Practitioners Forum (NMLPF) held on the 27-28 March 2025, demonstrated the importance of establishing a strategic national platform for municipal legal practitioners to share knowledge, case law, best practices, and case studies in response to complex legal challenges and ongoing litigations faced by various municipalities and local government sector as a whole.
The express aim of the forum, amongst others, is to provide updates on key emerging legal matters affecting local government, draw on the collective experiences and lessons learned by various municipalities in dealing with intricate legal cases and for municipalities to provide technical input to
SALGA's policy positions, advocacy agenda and legal strategy on matters of common interest. To date, three NMLPF meetings have been successfully convened with a wide range of participants from the legal fraternity in government and private sector.

South African Local Government Association is an autonomous association of all 257 South African local governments, comprising of a national association, with one national office and nine provincial offices. Membership of the association is voluntary. SALGA accounts to its members in terms of the SALGA Constitution (as amended in 2016) and it’s Governance Framework regulating its structures and mandating processes.
