CoGTA Deputy Minister urge SALGA to be at the forefront of implementing the "Back to Basics"

In his address in the National Assembly, CoGTA Deputy Minister, Honourable Andries Nel, commended the Chairperson of SALGA, Councillor Thabo Manyoni, and and the SALGA leadership for continuing to discharge the constitutional mandate of representing organised local government and being at the forefront of implementing the "Back to Basics" programme.
Minister Nel also commended SALGA CEO, Mr Xolile George, for the fourth successive clean audit achieved by SALGA. SALGA is encouraged by the positive attributes and recognition from CoGTA.
He said CoGTA will work with SALGA to ensure a smooth transition after local government elections by preparing a comprehensive councillor training programme and updating the Councillor Induction Manual to focus on the "Back to Basics" programme.
At the forefront of professionalising local government, SALGA on the other hand has evolved into a high performance organisation and continues to maintain a relatively high profile position locally with its members and with stakeholders in provincial and national government, as well as with international bodies and other influential bodies with relevance to local government
