SALGA AND LIBERTY YOUTH DAY COMMEMORATION
The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) in the Eastern Cape in partnership with Liberty and Buffalo City Metro Municipality participated in hands-on local-level projects which aim to contribute to the development of the children and youth who are the leaders of the future. This initiative is part of SALGA and Liberty's commitment towards the development of education holistically, as they believe that education is the corner stone of economic development and a means through which young people can be empowered. This ongoing and striving partnership has seen the formation of the Winter School Shoe Drive Initiative in 2017. Together, SALGA and Liberty have donated over 5000 pairs of school shoes to 34 schools across the Eastern Cape, through the initiative. Liberty Provincial Director, Mr Solly Booi alongside SALGA Senior Advisor for Inclusive Communities, Ms Khosi Msimka and Buffalo City Metro Executive Mayor, Cllr Princess Faku handed over the shoes to the learners at Sinomonde Primary School. "You are the future presidents of this county, the next school principals, nurses, police and even the next mayors of this City," added Cllr Faku. A donation of sanitary towels was also made to the school, with the aim that they be made available to any girl child who may need them in school. Story supplied by Buffalo City Metro Communications
