SALGA Eastern Cape to convene its Provincial Members Assembly on 29-30 November 2022 at the Wild Coast Sun, Mzamba
Following its elective conference in February this year, SALGA EC as led by its Chairperson, Cllr Mesuli Ngqondwana, will convene its Provincial Members Assembly on the 29 – 30 November 2022 themed 'Working cooperatively to recalibrate local government professionalisation towards effective service delivery, institutional agility and resilience, financial viability, sound, responsive and inclusive governance'. The assembly will be attended by Executive Mayors, Speakers, Chief Whips, Municipal Managers and Chief Financial Officers. Guests will include the Minister of Finance, Honourable Enoch Godongwana, Eastern Cape Premier, MECs for COGTA & Treasury, Chairperson of the Traditional House of Leadership as well as senior officials from government and entities. The Provincial Members Assembly will focus on issues affecting local government such as the increasing number of municipalities that are experiencing extreme financial difficulties, the spiralling debts, deepening governance crises especially in municipalities that are governed through coalitions as well the major service delivery challenges. The members' assembly will also deliberate on the increasing threat to democracy which manifestly reflected in vandalism, killing of councillors and municipal officials. The keynote address of the assembly will be delivered by the Eastern Cape Premier, Hon. Oscar Mabuyane. The Eastern Cape MEC for Corporate Governance and Traditional Affairs, Hon. Zolile Williams and the MEC for Provincial Treasury, Hon. Mlungisi Mvoko will be part of the Grand Plenary Debate focusing on inherent complexities of our evolving democracy, coalition governance and its impact on the going local government transformation. The Provincial Members Assembly will be preceded by the Launch of the Asisho Campaign, anation-wide civic responsibility campaign aimed at bridging the social distance between the municipalities and the consumers of municipal services. The launch will take place on the 28th November 2022 at 17h00, Wild Coast Sun, Mzamba.
