SALGA congratulates outgoing Chairperson Honourable Thabo Manyoni

SALGA congratulates former Chairperson Councillor Thabo Manyoni for being sworn in as a Member of the National Assembly. Honourable Manyoni was sworn on Tuesday, 04 October 2016.
Honourable Manyoni has served the organisation and the local government sector with excellency as Chairperson during the local government term 2011 – 2016. He also held the position of Executive Mayor of Manguang Metropolitan Municipality.
Honourable Manyoni has done extremely well during his tenure and is regarded as a visionary who has unified SALGA’s leadership. Manyoni has also been recognised in relation to how he unified the South African local governments. He has led SALGA efficiently and has become a driver for South Africa to be involved at various international forums.
It was under his exceptional mayoralship where the Mangaung Metro achieved its first unqualified audit in 2013, an achievement which the metro has maintained since. The net surplus of Mangaung Metro increased by over 300% between 2011 (238m) to 2014 (938m). Mangaung metro also obtained an excellent A3 investment grade rating from Moody’s Rating Agency in April 2015 for the very first time.
SALGA is proud to have been led by such a leader and believes South Africa and the continent at large stands to benefit from his contribution wherever he is deployed to serve.
Having anticipated this development, the SALGA National Executive Committee (NEC) has appointed Councillor Parks Tau as the interim SALGA Chairperson, to steer the preparations towards the elective National Conference in November 2016.
