|
The South African Local Government Association (SALGA would like to express its sadness after learning that Inkosi Sipho Mahlangu, Chairperson of the National House of Traditional Leaders and Khoi-San Leaders, passed away on Friday, 16 July 2021 due to Covid-19 complications.
The passing away of Inkosi Mahlangu represents an important loss for the institution of South Africa’s traditional leadership and the communities they represent.
He played an instrumental role in deepening and cementing the relationship between municipalities, traditional leaders and the communities they led.
His work was a reflection of his unfailing commitment to not only representing traditional authorities but also involving traditional communities within the country’s system of democratic governance.
While SALGA commemorates his life and work, we also mourn alongside his colleagues, the Mahlangu family, the Nduzundza royal family and the AmaNdebele nation as a whole at this difficult time.
Inkosi Mahlangu will be remembered as a strong leader with a clear vision and a willingness to share his practical knowledge and experience of cultural heritage with others.
SALGA once again extends its sincere condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of Inkosi Mahlangu.
His legacy will endure forever.
