The 3rd annual Local Government Labour Law Seminar is going virtual!

Posted: 10 February 2021

Regardless of your sphere of government, public entity or private organization, the South African Local Government Association’s (SALGA) 3rd annual Local Government Labour Law Seminar holds a tremendous amount of learning experiences, valuable insights and action-oriented solutions for anyone interested in the discipline of labour law and how it shapes the relationship between workers, employing entities, trade unions and the government.

This year’s seminar, held under the theme “A Responsive and Effective Municipal Labour Relations System in a Rapidly Changing World of Work”, takes place from 22-23 February 2021, and brings together professionals and innovative thinkers in the areas of labour practice, labour relations management and performance management for game-changing keynotes and discussions.

Because the COVID-19 pandemic has affected many parts of our lives, unlike previous years, this year's seminar will be hosted on a virtual platform so that the attendees and participants will not only feel safe, but also comply with all regulations and safety measures related to gatherings during the pandemic.

What to expect at the 3rd installment of the Local Government Labour Law Seminar?
This year’s theme is inspired by many rapid changes that have engulfed the world of work manifestly accelerated by the advent of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) on the one hand and the current impact of the Covid-19 pandemic which has brought into sharp focus the efficacy or lack thereof of our organisational arrangements, practices and thinking.

Recent pandemic induced experiences have pointed to the need for organisations to quickly adapt to the new normal through the introduction of new forms of practices such as working from home, remotely or anywhere, business continuity, occupational health and safety, employee engagement, agility and wellness to mention but a few.

These and other global perspectives articulated through the prism of 4IR imperatives and International Labour Organization (ILO) frameworks form the backdrop of the seminar topics and expected deliberations, coupled to recent court judgements that continue to shape the employment law landscape in the South African labour market context.

Seminar topics include:
• Providing macro perspectives on the changing world of work, global perspective of the 4IR implications and lessons learnt for local government,
• Covid-19 impact on public sector collective bargaining arrangements and applicable jurisprudence,
• Municipal perspectives on human resources management and organisational development challenges, threats and opportunities presented by the new normal, and
• Perspectives on Gender Based Violence and handling of Sexual Harassment & Racism in the Workplace.

The 3rd annual Local Government Labour Law Seminar going virtual this year means that you can join us from anywhere you please.
The seminar will be streamed via Zoom. To avoid missing out on the presentations and discussions, take full advantage of pre-registration here: on or before close of business on 10 February 2021

We hope to see you there!
