SALGA congratulates Ms Tsakani Maluleke on her appointment as the Auditor-General South Africa
Cllr. Thembi Nkadimeng, President of the South African Local Government Association and the national executive committee (NEC) of SALGA, expresses delight at the appointment by His Excellency, President Cyril Ramaphosa, Ms Tsakani Maluleke as the Auditor-General of South Africa (AGSA), beginning on 1 December 2020. “We wish to congratulate you, Ms Tsakani Maluleke, upon the assumption of your new responsibilities at the helm of South Africa’s supreme audit institution, and we look forward to working closely with you in strengthening the cooperation between SALGA and the Office of the Auditor-General” commented Nkadimeng. “This will of course be made easier as you are no stranger to the sector, having served as Deputy Auditor-General since 2014.” Ms Maluleke’s appointment also comes at a time when the Public Audit Amendment Act has been signed into law. SALGA has consistently supported the amendment of the Act. This with a view that it would give the Office of the Auditor-General the extended powers needed to strengthen consequence management, which in turn promotes public sector financial accountability. SALGA therefore looks forward to maintaining the strong momentum that has been built by the Act and we wish to express our resolve to redouble existing efforts in strengthening accountability for public funds as prescribed by the Municipal Finance Management Act (MFMA). Best wishes for the future. |
