SALGA to respond to President’s State of the Nation Address
SALGA President, Cllr Thembi Nkadimeng will deliver SALGA’s reply to President Cyril Ramaphosa’s State of the Nation Address (SONA) today at a joint sitting scheduled to kick off at 14:00. Following the President’s address Members of Parliament are provided with an opportunity to debate the address over two days to a joint sitting of both Houses. In his SONA speech, President Ramaphosa made pronouncements pertaining to local government, ranging from municipal bulk infrastructure, the district development model as well as enabling municipalities in good financial standing to procure power from independent power producers. In her response, Cllr Nkadimeng will unpack how the announcements made by the President will be adopted and implemented by municipalities. President Ramaphosa is expected to reply to the debate on Thursday, 20 February 2020. |
