Local Government careers uplifted at Mpakeni during Mandela Day commemoration

For the 2019 Nelson Mandela Day commemoration, SALGA Mpumalanga presented a Career Day for the Grade 11 and 12 learners at the Chief Charles Secondary School in Mpakeni. SALGA together with the Local Government Sector Education and Training Authority (LGSETA) and the National Youth Development Agency (NYDA) promoted careers in the Local government sector and shared career guides and prospectus' that will assist the learners in mapping their future.

The Career Day session was facilitated by Clr. Flora Maboa-Boltman who is a SALGA Provincial Executive Committee member, who continuously encouraged learners to learn and educate themselves for a brighter tomorrow. SALGA Mpumalanga Deputy Chairperson Clr. Tiny Mthimunye gave the keynote address, highlighting that "Positive minds inspire a positive outlook and therefor builds a positive future".

The Traditional Leadership of Mpakeni led by Inkhosi S Nkosi graced the occasion as well to motivate the learners.

From the National Youth Development Agency, in her presentation, Ms. Jabulile Shongwe introduced Mr. Pat Mdluli who was offered a full scholarship to study BSc Mathematics in Turkey by the NYDA. He is now qualified entrepreneur with his own business that focuses on mathematics and continues to educate and skill learners who have interest in the same field.

The SALGA Mpumalanga Provincial Director of Operations Mrs. Gugu Langa together with the Principal of Chief Charles Secondary school later handed out packs to learners which include brochures and items that will assist them in their career guidance journey.
