SALGA KwaZulu Natal hosts Green Energy Symposium
SALGA in KwaZulu Natal on Friday, 02 November hosted a Green Energy Symposium themed "Green Energy in Infrastructure Development for Local Government." The symposium which was Live Streamed was attended by about one hundred local municipal delegates dealing with municipal infrastructural services. During his keynote address, SALGA KZN Provincial Executive Officer Mr Sabelo Gwala, encouraged municipal delegates to seriously engage on issues of green energy because they are critical for sustainable development. Gwala said municipalities must make the green economy good for business. ‘’While we embrace the green economy we must take advantage by making it good for business,’’ Vazi said, "Green Energy is not only meant to mitigate climate change but mainly a means for municipalities to lead in power generation and distribution". Professor Ben Sebiotosi from the Centre for Renewables and Sustainable Energy Studies at the Stellenbosch University spoke about Green Energy Technologies in Infrastructure Development. Professor Sebiotosi says different communities have a different understanding of what suitability and green infrastructure is. ‘‘We need a South African perspective of infrastructure that responds to our daily challenges’, he said. During the third session of the symposium, delegates took part in various panel discussions and roundtable discussions to craft the resolutions and a way forward and putting all the plans and prospects into workable actions for implementation at municipal level. |
