SALGA and the Dullah Omar Institute sign MoU for research and development

During the recent SALGA Research Colloquium, SALGA and the University of the Western Cape Dullah Omar Institute signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalise their working relationship. The MoU will see to it that the two organisations cooperative and collaborative in areas of research, development, and other important administration initiatives.
SALGA as an autonomous association of municipalities is required to be responsive to the dynamic challenges faced by its members and understand the key fundamental pressures faced by local government. The organisation views research a fundamental component of its strategy in order to achieve its objectives.
On the other hand, the Dullah Omar Institute engaged with research, teaching and advocacy on governance and human rights throughout Africa. The Institute works in five areas, namely children’s rights, socio-economic rights, multilevel government, criminal justice reform and women’s rights.
The rationale for this collaboration seeks to continuously generate cutting-edge credible knowledge and information that will strengthen SALGA’s ability to influence the policy agenda, thus, reposition SALGA as a centre for Local Government excellence, knowledge and intelligence.
