SALGA and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities collaborate to host 1st Policy and Advocacy Workshop

SALGA and the Federation of Canadian Municipalities (FCM) will host their first Policy and Advocacy Framework Workshop at the Ingwenyama Conference and Sports Resort, White River, Mpumalanga on 22 – 23 February 2018.
The workshop is part of the Building Inclusive Green Municipalities (BIGM) Project and contributes to the ‘BIGM Immediate Outcome 3100: Improved capacity of SALGA to implement effective governance arrangements and sustainable revenue models.’ 
Participants will include SALGA CEO Xolile George and FCM CEO Brock Carlton, senior policy and government relations staff, thematic experts as well as some municipal managers.

The Policy and Advocacy Workshop is aimed at addressing the following objectives: 

1. Mutual understanding is developed between SALGA and FCM’s respective mandate, to ensure inter-governmental landscape and overall policy development and advocacy mechanisms.
2. Experiences shared concerning recent advocacy wins illustrate how SALGA and the FCM work with their members and national government.
3. Common areas of interest for subsequent collaborative activates are identified by both SALGA and FCM.

With the intention to be held twice a year, these workshops will compare policy positions on themes of common interest and the advocacy mechanisms used to engage members and to lobby national governments.
