12th National Municipal Managers Forum

Local government in South Africa has undergone significant transformation during the past 20 years. While more people benefit from access to basic services today than ever before in the history of this country – in itself a laudable achievement – the sector continues to face legacy and new problems that undermines development and transformation. Therefore, there is a need to do much more than address old and new problems. In the era of the Fourth Industrial Revolution, defined as a technological revolution that will fundamentally alter the way we live, work and relate to one another, the business as usual approach will no longer work. New ways of thinking, fresh approaches are needed to solve legacy and new problems faced by municipalities today.

Informed by these developments, the 12th National Municipal Managers Forum, cohosted with the City of Mbombela Local Municipality from 20 – 21 February 2018 will explore innovations and good practices from South Africa, the continent and abroad to improve municipal performance and services. The Forum will include a Municipal Innovation Exhibition to showcase proven innovations and technologies that have potential to improve municipal performance and governance. This inaugural Municipal Innovation Exhibition will focus on the following municipal themes:

  1. a) Water & Sanitation;
    b) Electricity & Energy;
    c) Municipal Financial Management & Sustainability;
    d) Municipal ICT & Innovations
